Last day!

Saturday the 2nd was the last full day in DC! We saw the Folklife Festival and then headed to George Washington's Mount Vernon in the afternoon for a little history about the Revolutionary War (and fireworks). MURICA!

Friday after visiting Jefferson, we decided to tackle the last part of the challenge, which took us all the way to the other side of DC!

On Friday the 30th, we finally decided we better go pay Thomas Jefferson a visit after he had been haunting us for several days. On the way, we saw an interesting plaque that we used a little google translate to help us understand.

Hacking in progress! With no preparation or instruction beforehand, the hacking challenge was solved in under two hours! It involved source code analysis, social media searching, finding and parsing emails, translation (from French), image metadata (also known as EXIF data), google maps (including leveraging both imagery, street view, and navigation). The last part would involve another skill that would come tomorrow....

Wednesday the 28th started with a trip to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, part of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum - where they keep the big stuff that would never fit downtown. We stopped at the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Enola Gay, saw the SR-71 Blackbird, the Concord, and a ton of other aircraft.

Thursday, June 27th was a trip to the National Mall. After getting lucky with a parking spot, the first stop was FDR (and Eleanor) with good views of the Washington Monument. Next was MLK, then the Cherry Tree Lantern on the way to the World War II Memorial and center of the West side of the Mall. We then went to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and finished the mall by seeing Lincoln. A little North, we stopped by The White House right before the rain came in. We didn't see the Jefferson Memorial on this day - only from a distance (and he haunted us until we saw him later in the week).
